The Rudolf from Põhjala is an exceptionally strong Ryewine from the Estonian brewery's Cellar Series. For this barrel-aged beer, an intense, rye-forward strong beer is aged in Finnish Rye Whisky barrels. The result is a complex beer with rich malt notes, distinct barrel character, and a proud 12% abv.

Even in the aroma, Rudolf shows its full power: Rye bread, dark malt, and ripe fruits meet caramel, wood, and the spicy warmth of rye whisky. On the palate, notes of toasted bread crust, chocolate, and vanilla are added, while nutty and subtle tobacco notes provide additional depth.

Despite its pronounced sweetness, Rudolf has enough roastiness and bitterness to avoid being one-dimensional. The barrel aging introduces wood, vanilla, and whisky character, combining excellently with the spice of the rye. The mouthfeel is full, dense, and warming – definitely not a beer to drink quickly.

A true slow-sipping beer for long evenings and for all who love Barley Wines, Ryewines, and barrel-aged strong beers.

Taste

In the foreground are rye bread, dark malt, caramel, and ripe dark fruits. Additionally, there are chocolate, vanilla, and a distinct but well-integrated rye whisky note. Woody, nutty, and slightly spicy hints provide additional complexity. The finish is long, full-bodied, and pleasantly alcoholic-warming.
